The outside of Tropicana Field is getting a bit of a face lift. At the box office, fans are picking up tickets. Inside The Trop, red, white, and blue buntings are hung and new food options being sampled.
This all means one thing: Ray's opening day is upon us.
New to The Trop this year, the popular Taco Bus set up a bus stop to serve fans authentic Mexican food.
"We wanted to take the opportunity to get super plugged in," Kristalyn Stokes of Taco Bus said. "The Rays have a great following here and Taco Bus has a great following, so it just seems like the perfect partnership."
Other new tastes include Ricky P's famous po’boys sandwiches; a mac bat, a flatbread filled with mac-n-cheese and other toppings; and new baked potatoes, flatbreads and of course a hot dog.
One is topped with mac-n-cheese and other goodies.
In the shadow of The Trop, Ferg's Sports Bar and Grill is also getting warmed up.
"Everybody's excited. They like the new team. They like the new energy," owner Mark Ferguson said.
What better way to capture the energy than to throw a block party. Ferg's will be doing just that, closing down Central Avenue out front of the bar for Rays fans to party.
"We'll have all kinds of corn hole tournaments. We'll have furniture in the street. We'll have a bar in the street," Ferguson said.
The party, getting fans ready to "Rays up,” will make Tropicana Field loud and proud when the team takes the field.
The Ferg's block party will start at 10 a.m. and go until 3 p.m. Monday. After that all the action will move next door to The Trop. The first pitch will be thrown at 3:10 p.m.
